Ramu, a fresh graduate is searching for a job in post-Partition Kolkata, Ramu's girlfriend Uma also lives in an equally precarious situation. Ramu does not get a job and cannot pay rent, Uma offers to help them set up in the new dwelling. The film ends with the hope of new life.
