A new student arrives in a small school in the country, where there are only 5 other students, and they all share the same class.

Ichijou Hotaru is enjoying life with her classmates at her new school. In particular, she has come to think of the diminutive Koshigaya Komari, at less than 140cm, as her "cute Senpai." This feeling soon grows into absolute adoration. Then, one day, Komari calls Hotaru and invites her to hang out together...

Upon arriving at school, Hotaru learns from Natsumi that a class outing is planned for that day. Everyone sets out with high hopes, even though they haven't been told where exactly they're going. When they arrive, they find their teacher and Renge already decked out in work hats and rubber overalls...

On the day after report cards are handed out and summer vacation finally begins, the middle daughter of the Miyauchi household, Hikage, returns home. She proudly brags about her experiences in the big city... until Hotaru strolls in for a visit. Later, as Renge is walking alongside a stream, she meets a girl around her age holding a camera who introduces herself as Ishikawa Honoka...

Summer is made for swimming in the sea! The students of Asahigaoka Branch School take a trip to the beach together. As Renge and Natsumi play in their swimsuits, Komari neither swims nor changes into her swimsuit, but only gazes out at the ocean. Then Hotaru shows up in a rather bold bikini...

After being lectured about their studies by their mother, Komari and Natsumi meet up with Renge to pay a visit to Hotaru's house. Unaware of this, Hotaru has been busy making plushies modeled after her beloved Komari-senpai. Just as she's pondering where she should put them all, the doorbell rings...

Summer vacation is over and the second semester has begun at Asahigaoka Branch School. Natsumi bursts in late after oversleeping on the first day, only to find the teacher absent and the other students in their seats looking bored. The students come up with different activities to kill time until the teacher arrives, but Renge's tastes don't quite match those of the older students...

All the students of Asahigaoka Branch School set about to prepare a meal using the produce they've grown in the school garden. Komari is in charge of making rice with potatoes. While Hotaru watches, Komari struggles to cook like a pro in hopes of showing up Natsumi, who had accused her of being a lousy cook. Then, when the meal is prepared and it's time to dig in...

After Natsumi declares that she wants to try one, Asahigaoka Branch School begins to plan its first cultural festival. As the girls prepare for the festival on very short notice (the coming weekend), they realize they haven't decided who to invite yet. They decide to start by inviting their friend Konomi, who happens to be visiting as they prepare, as well as Renge's sister, Hikage, and the...

The school is deserted, and the trees are bare. The second semester has ended, and the students of Asahigaoka Branch School are preparing for the New Year. The Koshigayas are cleaning house, the Ichijous are preparing osechi, and the Miyauchis are making New Year's soba. Late at night, Kaede joins the Miyauchi sisters to go out and watch the first sunrise of the year...

A sudden snowstorm causes the buses to stop running and forces the gang to spend the night at the school. Hotaru is excited as it's her first time staying overnight at school, but it turns out they only have two futons and one sleeping bag to share among five girls. Then, moments after this discovery, their teacher falls sound asleep in one of the futons...

As light filters through the spring foliage and bush warblers sing all around them, the students of Asahigaoka Branch School set off to pick some wild edible plants. Komari teaches Hotaru, who is gathering wild plants for the first time, which types are edible. And as they continue their hunt, Renge once again starts to suspect that they really do live in the country...
