French and Saunders

Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders lift the lid on their spoof variety show with two bolshy disgruntled schoolgirls haranguing their student teacher, Dawn's impression of Alison Moyet is interrupted by none other than special guest Alison Moyet, and over on the sports desk two bored typists are doing their best to steal the limelight from presenter Steve Rider.

There are more laughs from Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders as the comedy duo try their best to 'star' as extras in an airplane TV commercial, there's a break in at the home of Avengers producer Oscar Quitak, and a bewildered special guest Roy Castle is released from a box to perform a song and dance routine with Betty Marsden.

Dawn and Jennifer reach for the padding and prosthetics as the infamous Fat Men make their first appearance on the spoof variety show, the British synchronised swimming team go through their routine in the pool complete with green frilly costumes, and special guest Julie T Wallace discovers she is the victim of mistaken identity.

With poor ratings threatening their show, Dawn and Jennifer resort to extreme measures and hunt down BBC controller Michael Grade, Inspector Bravo meets Inspector Bravo in a spoof of the popular police drama, and in a performance of Carmen the comic duo even manage to find time for a spot of sunbathing!

It's a case of 'the show must go on' for the funny girls when industrial action and a walk out by Betty Marsden and her senile dance troop Hot Hoofers threaten the show and the extras wreak their usual havoc when they find themselves on the set of a First World War movie.

The curtains come down on the first series of French and Saunders' spoof entertainment show with faded star Cathy Broadway trying hard to impress in a musical audition, a lecturer finds old habit die hard when she addresses a group of first-time teachers, and Betty Marsden leads special guest Joan Armatrading on a wild goose chase as they go in search of her dressing room!
