Chandra, born from the powers of sage Atri and Anusuya, became the protector of gods and defeated demon king Bali. He married the 27 daughters of Daksha, but his love for Rohini led to a curse of tuberculosis. After intense penance, he overcame it and became Mahadev’s full form in Somnath. During Samudhramanthan, he cooled Mahadev’s throat, earning the title Chandrashekhar.
