After killing a man in a bar fight, ex-P.O.W. Bill Saunders flees and finds cover in nurse Jane Wharton's home. She promises not to file a police report if he leaves. He agrees but pursues his interest in her. After serving time for assaulting a cop, Saunders tries to start fresh with her help, until a racketeer who saw the bar fight blackmails him into committing another crime.
