Professor Hood is on the trail of a sinister Italian scientist who is attempting to be the first person to bring a cloned baby into the world.

When a worker who has been clearing an old crypt is found dying from a mysterious virus, the government''s roving scientific investigator is called in to investigate.

Dr Adams has become paranoid and alleges that persons unknown are sabotaging his work on global warming and even threatening his life. When Adams disappears, having apparently destroyed all his work, all he leaves behind are some equations.

Professor Hood is disquieted to learn from the media that an oncologist called Dr Williams is claiming that a young boy has been cured of his cancer by drinking some local spring water.
