Every winter, four penguin species breed in different locations in southern New Zealand: Fiordland crested penguins around the rugged Fiordland coast, yellow-eyed penguins on the sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands, little blue penguins near Oamaru and white-flippered penguins on Banks Peninsula.
