There are over 6000 islands in the United Kingdom, many of which are absolutely tiny. They may be home to wildlife alone or inhabited by small, close communities. We meet those people and get a glimpse into their worlds. While some think living on an island can be an escape from modern life, the reality is that the logistics of limited connection to the mainland bring their own challenges.

We travel the length of the UK, from Fair Isle off the coast of Scotland in the far north, via the tiny and uninhabited Cockle Island in Northern Ireland, and down to the Isles of Scilly off the South West coast.  Oyster farmers, an island renowned for its knitted jumpers due to the special weight of the wool from the local sheep, and gardens home to around 20,000 plants, are featured.
