The Time of Our Lives

The Tivolli clan are traumatized when Ray has a shocking accident. Caroline struggles with the reality of returning to work while also dealing with Carmody’s bad behavior. She changes her mind about selling the house, upsetting Matt, who wants to buy his own place with a pregnant Alice. Herb and Chai Li’s romance hits a roadblock, and Bernadette gets her gene test results.

Caroline deals with difficult situations both at home and work. She is forced to take care of Alice when she has a miscarriage, and she is given a big case only to have it taken away. Luce asks Herb to contact an ex to perform in a show, while Bernadette struggles with her options in light of her gene-test results.

Matt is preparing to negotiate the biggest deal of his career for his star player; if the contract goes through, he’ll be able to buy a house for him and Alice. But Alice is in Sydney and doesn’t plan to come back. Matt is also in the throes of another kind of negotiation, as he and Caroline go through divorce proceedings, while Ray and Rosa struggle with their new reality after his accident.

Bernadette immerses herself in a school sports program in order to avoid making a decision about surgery, and Luce feels sad that she won’t confide in him. Chai Li is back in town and confronts Herb about how quickly he moved on to Lisa. Both facing new beginnings, Chai Li and Matt start living together, and the two siblings grow closer.

Luce is excited about his upcoming show, but rehearsals are going poorly, with Lisa constantly late and acting difficult. He makes a choice that backfires on him, and he must compromise or lose the show altogether. Following her surgery, Bernadette goes into menopause, while Caroline finds herself intrigued by QC Diana Southey.

Herb takes his mother in after he discovers she’s been living out of her car, but her troubles are far worse than that. Matt and Caroline have an unexpected speed date, and Luce takes a salesman job after confronting the reality of his family’s finances.

When Carmody is injured, Matt and Caroline are thrown together in an unexpected way that leads to an honest conversation about their situation. Caroline channels her fear of losing control into a project at the school and ends up driving Bernadette nuts. As Herb settles Lenore’s affairs and plans her funeral, Chai Li proves to be his rock, and the two come together in a moment of sadness.

Luce organizes a surprise wedding for Bernadette, while she enlists Matt’s help to prepare for a job interview. At the wedding, people are brave, and lives are changed.
