Archie's plan to resurrect his crumbling inheritance looks doomed when their main ally at Lascelles bank faces the chop. Archie must gamble all to the estate and bring it back from the brink. All this while trying to quell a growing rebellion against his increasingly unpopular girlfriend, Justine.

Archie and his irrepressible father, Hector, go head-to-head as they battle for possession of a rare and valuable barrel of whiskey; Archie is determined to sell it, while Hector to drink it. Meantime, Katrina throws caution to the wind and tries to win Archie's heart; while Golly and Duncan go head to head.

Ghosts from the past return to haunt Hector as a long-held grudge threatens Glenbogle's future. Hector confronts old flame, Edith Rankin, the tyrannous local council leader, whose feelings of rejection still burn as fiercely. So Hector digs deep to save Archie's bacon.

Archie wants to ignore his 30th birthday, but there is little chance of that while Molly plans secret celebrations, and Hector is preparing a special surprise all of his own. Katrina's makes the most of the opportunity to let the birthday boy know that she and Fergal are more than just good friends.

Molly's gambling addiction threatens to bankrupt the Macdonald family when she finds trouble with a Glasgow gangster. Penniless and desperate, Molly decides on a dangerous plan to save Archie and company from complete ruin. Elsewhere on the estate, Archie has a challenge of major proportions on his hands.

Dishes fly at Glenbogle, as Lexie comes face to face with her estranged mother. Archie finds himself caught in the mother of catfights as he struggles to unite a divided family. Meanwhile, Katrina is stunned to discover that her school is scheduled for closure. However, does Fergal have the answer?

The sudden arrival of a pregnant Lizzie MacDonald provokes a disapproving Hector into disowning his errant daughter. With Lizzie going into labor, Archie must race against time to reconcile his warring family, before the next generation of the MacDonalds is born. Elsewhere, it is decision time for Katrina.

With the transformation of Glenbogle now complete, Archie can look forward to the future. Until a distant relative from America arrives, claiming to be the rightful Laird of Glenbogle. With the family home in jeopardy, Archie invokes the chieftains' challenge and must battle to prove that he is the real Monarch of the Glen.
