Swiss Family Robinson

The family begins building their new house -- high in the branches of a tree. Becca wanders away from her responsibilities, and is washed from shore on a drifting log.

A jackal attack forces the family into their treehouse ahead of schedule and upsets plans for mother's birthday surprise.

The Robinsons use their ingenuity as they settle into their new island life. Mother enthusiastically plants a garden, but the seedlings are rooted up by wild pigs.

Mother replants and fences the garden -- only to see the buds eaten by birds. Strings of noisy shells solve that problem. Fritz and his father build a canoe, but it doesn't float. Following mother's example, they start on a second.

When Fritz and Jack go fishing in the new canoe, their little pet Mercedes falls overboard. The danger of sharks prevents an easy rescue, but the dog Brewster saves the day.

Becca is excited about her first hunting trip -- until Fritz shoots a bird and her pity overcomes her taste for meat. She lures home a goat, providing milk and cheese as welcome additions to the family's diet.

Standing watch for ships at the cape is an important, though always useless job. But today Becca spots one, and the family's joy turns to desperation as their signals go unheeded. Though disappointed, they refuse to give up hope.

The Robinsons watch a turtle laying eggs on the beach, and are impressed with the solemn ceremony. Becca and Jack keep watch over the nest, fighting off a hungry snake, until the eggs hatch and the baby turtles disappear into the sea.

Jack has a secret collection of beautiful shells. He is in for a surprise when he adds an egg to his collection, and soon has a new baby bird to return to its nest.

The Robinsons take a day off from their demanding work and all enjoy their favorites pastimes -- except poor Becca who can't find anything exciting to do. Bored, she falls asleep on the beach, only to awaken with a horrible lizard on her stomach.

Fritz unwittingly insults Becca, and she runs away to live in a tree of her own. It takes the whole family to win her back.

The matches are used up and Fritz breaks the only lamp. Father saves the day, showing them how to kindle a fire with a bow, and how to make candles from waxy berries.
