When a spine is dredged out of Whitney Marsh, a new case begins for Jess and Sunny’s team at Bishop Street CID. Four potential suspects—university lecturer Juliet Cooper, tv correspondent Melinda Ricci, refugee Asif Syed who works as a translator and autistic man Marty Baines who cares for his homebound mother--each have secrets to hide.

The Bishop St. team investigates Gerry Cooper’s record, relationships, and enemies. Jess and Sunny make contact with his widow, Juliet. More layers to the suspects’ lives are revealed, and none of them are as innocent as they first seem.

The team discover Asif, Mel, and Marty’s connections to Gerry, and bring Marty in. Gerry Cooper’s descent into nationalism is revealed, as well as his violent streak. Jess reaches out to her sister Debbie; Leanne and Sunny’s friendship evolves.

With the details of Gerry Cooper’s life becoming clearer and one suspect already being questioned, the Bishop Street team find suspects further afield. And if Mel and Asif have nothing to hide, why do they claim not to remember Gerry?

Lies are uncovered as Mel and Asif are taken into custody. Juliet tries to protect Taylor, and herself, from the investigation, and a possible witness to the body’s disposal is found. And Jess plans a conversation with Steve.

For better or worse, Jess and Sunny finally get the truth from Asif, Marty, Mel, and Juliet, and Gerry Cooper’s killer is revealed. But both on and off the case, the truth leads to difficult decisions.
