Life Below Zero

With the last of the longer days coming to an end, the Alaskans must travel through unfamiliar territories and stockpile resources before the waterways freeze and winter's dark, brutal conditions overtake the land.

From scouting for resources in sub-zero temperatures to hiking the countryside in search of food, those who dwell on the frontier of the Arctic must do whatever is in their power to secure their homesteads for the cold that lies ahead.

As the days grow shorter, the Alaskans struggle to accomplish daily tasks, including trapping, sled dog racing, and hunting sheep. In conditions such as these, adaptation is the key to success, and survival.

In the darkest and coldest time of the year in the Arctic, Alaskans must burn the midnight oil and use the brief hours of daylight to build vital tools, maintain their land, hunt for needed food, and sharpen their survival skills.

Finding the essentials needed to survive the Arctic is a never-ending quest that requires Alaskans to explore remote locations unfit for normal human existence, but the beauty of the landscape provides rewards unlike any other place on Earth.

The Alaskans battle unusually low snowfall and lack of precipitation in the dark of winter to protect resources and cross uncertain terrain. As Andy prepares to break a new trail on the ice of the Yukon, Glenn protects his meat cache from predators.

As the darkness wanes in the Arctic, the Alaskans must develop new skills for their survival as they make the final push through the remainder of winter. This episode sees Glenn build an igloo to protect himself from the weather during caribou hunts.
