With backing from Lady Cora Peters, Eleanor strikes out on her own, opening the Thrift, a charitable infirmary in one of London's poorest neighborhoods.

When Lady Cora's pregnant laundry maid is rushed to the Thrift with labor pains, nobody realizes that she will lead them into the criminal underworld.
