In the aftermath of September 11, the destinies of several servants of the French state become intertwined: Lynx, a lone mercenary; Fennec, a soldier who has infiltrated a dormant terrorist cell in the Paris region; Colonel Montana, the ruthless head of the intelligence services. Each tries to carry out his or her mission, while a major attack is in the offing.

As a planned attack on French soil takes shape, Colonel Montana manipulates several services, as much to protect the country as for personal gain. Agent Fennec gnawed at his own brakes, and felt that he wasn't being told everything about the nature of his mission. Meanwhile, Lynx is ordered by his superior to get closer to Amel in order to keep an eye on the progress of his investigation.

Violent deaths follow one another among the members of the sleeper cell, much to the dismay of Agent Fennec, who refuses to be involved in arbitrary executions. His sanity falters in daily contact with the religious fanatics, who begin to doubt his loyalty. In parallel with these targeted assassinations, the implacable Lynx sets out to seduce Amel.

The noose tightens as the poison gas intended for the attack gets closer to Paris. Colonel Montana covers his tracks by turning against several of his pawns, including Steiner. Fennec is unmasked by the jihadists and Lynx must confront her love for Amel with orders and the cold reason of State. As for the journalist, she gets closer and closer to the truth.
