Guy Stevenson is an accused man, fighting for his life. As he pleads to the jury, he repeats the words "The Assize of the Dying," an old Spanish curse invoked by those wrongly convicted. He is found guilty and sentenced to death, but two observers decide that he actually was innocent. As they step out of the courtroom, the curse seems to have started already.
