When Denny faints in the lobby of Crane, Poole & Schmidt, Alan helps him take on the drug companies that contributed to his critical condition.

Denny is once again arrested, this time after shooting a mugger three times in self-defense. Wanting to improve his chances at becoming partner, Jerry helps Carl in defending him.

While Jerry goes up for partner, Alan goes head-to-head with Denise Bauer in a case involving government Mad Cow Disease testing, and head-to-head with Denny over his decision to vote for John McCain.

Jerry insists on defending himself when he is accused of aggravated assault after hitting a loudmouth in a coffee shop; and Alan and Shirley try to help a pregnant teenager obtain a judicial by-pass.

Usual partners are mixed up when Carl and Denny travel to Virginia to defend an officer who is accused of murder after shooting a man on death row whose lethal injection caused him to have seizures.

Shirley and Sack’s intimate Thanksgiving turns into a dysfunctional family affair when the entire firm plus Edwin Poole, his streetwise foster child, and the hated Melvin Palmer weasel an invitation.

Sack helps Catherine Piper sue the networks for not creating TV shows for people over fifty; and Denny learns that his Alzheimer’s has progressed, so he fights to get an experimental drug not yet available.

As Alan prepares to try Denny's Alzheimer's drug case in front of the Supreme Court, Shirley tries to block the purchase of the firm by a Chinese business.

Before Alan and Denny go to the Supreme Court, they must fight an injunction to keep them from getting married to each other. Meanwhile, religious differences could threaten Shirley and Carl's upcoming wedding.
