The Long Long Holiday

In the summer of 1939, Ernest and Colette, 10 and 6 years old, left Paris for a weekend to visit their maternal grandparents, who live in Grangeville, in Normandy. Ernest and Colette end up staying longer than expected with their grandparents. The war was declared. Robert, the children's father, is leaving for the front, while Lucie, their mother, is sick and expected at the sanatorium...

In October 1939, it is the beginning of the school year. Colette became friends with Rosalie, while Ernest became friends with Jean. A new student has joined the class: Fernand, whom everyone mocks for his Alsatian accent...

In June 1940, the war has begun: From now on, they must flee. Ernest tries, in vain, to convince Muguette to accompany them. Papilou quickly loads their belongings on a cart and takes his family away from home...

In July 1940, the occupying forces moved into the hamlet. The arrival of Colonel von Krieger and his troops disrupted the lives of Ernest and Colette...

In March 1941, a letter from Robert arrives at the grandparents' home. In his letter, he explains that he is imprisoned in Germany...Mamili proposes to the children to send him a parcel...

One night in September 1941, a British plane was shot down and crashed into the sea. The next day, the children find the English pilot, who has taken refuge in their Robinson's lair...

In July 1942, Vichy France made it mandatory for Jews to wear a yellow star. In Grangeville, Germans are relentlessly searching for the leader of the resistance network in the region...

In the autumn of 1943, the commemoration of the First World War is near. The Robinsons participate more and more actively in the resistance by passing messages, parcels, or by keeping watch and distributing leaflets...

On June 4, 1944, the young heroes took part in a parachuting mission. The Allied landings were imminent and were awaited with growing impatience by the villagers...

On August 31, 1944, because of Durand, the Germans were able to find the hideout and they shot at it. The place was empty but the soldiers decided to settle there to wait for the return of the resistance fighters...
