Five Fables

A town mouse pays a visit to her sister in the country, but is disgusted by the basic fare on offer. She invites the country mouse to the town, where they gorge themselves on a range of foods. But at what cost? Enter Hunter Gib, the jolly cat…

A swallow watches a farmer sow flaxseed and pleads with his fellow birds to gobble the seed up while they have the chance. Three times he warns them, but they pay no heed. The flax grows and is harvested by the farmer and turned into thread to make a net.

The wily fox gangs up with the strong but foolish wolf to steal from a man driving a cart load of fish. The fox lies on the road, pretending to be dead. Despite their clever planning, the fox gets finds himself caught by the furious carter.

A bunch of mice stumble upon a sleeping lion and, thinking that he’s dead, start jumping all over him. He wakes up and grabs the terrified leader, ready to kill him. After a protracted negotiation, the mouse finally gets the lion to release him.

In a fit of bad temper a farmer shouts at his misfiring oxen: “the wolf shall have the lot of you!”. The fox, overhearing nearby, decides to take the farmer at his word, and a battle ensues.
