Blue Watch returns and appears to be thriving under the leadership of Station Officer Mick Callaghan. Later, the team is called out to an accident involving a submerged car.

The members of Blue Watch are racked with grief and guilt over Recall's death as they search for answers and someone to blame. The gallant team also leaps to the rescue of the new cook when she manages to start a fire on her first day, while Adam resolves to bail Elaine out of her financial difficulties.

New recruit Craig Ross arrives at Blackwall, and Mooney begins his bid for leadership of the brigade - only to put his life at risk when an abseiling stunt goes horribly wrong. Luckily, Sally is on hand to comfort the would-be boss, and an emotional moment gives her the opportunity she has been waiting for.

Mick clashes with Mooney over how Blue Watch should be run, but the latter is given a confidence boost after he recruits Adam and has a romantic encounter. Meanwhile, a high-speed chase to a fire leads driver George to a near disaster, and Lisa reveals that she knows Sally's secret.

As the inquiry into Recall's death takes place, Shauna's mood swings become more extreme. Adam fears Ross' presence in the pub has something to do with the DI Roebuck car business. Mooney is hailed a hero after chasing a mugger who robbed an elderly woman, and Blue Watch rushes to put out a fire at a school - only to find the caretaker has managed the job single-handedly. 

Sally's nephew turns up at the station and Adam gets mugged.

The team leaps into action when a block of flats catches fire. Mooney and Adam rush to rescue trapped children but are mortified to find that they have failed to locate one of the missing youngsters. In an effort to relieve his anger, Mooney accepts an invitation to fight in a boxing match between the brigade and the police.

Blue Watch prepares for the worst when a Russian satellite is set to hit London.

Shauna fears that her baby is Mooney's, but she can't be sure. Mooney continues to push Sally away, not knowing that she's carrying his child. When she tells him she's pregnant, he realizes that this is the hope he's been waiting for.
