Spartacus leads a rebellion with thousands of freed slaves, determined to bring down the Roman Republic. Former rivals Naevia, Crixus, Gannicus, and Agron become rebel generals, joining Spartacus in the war against the empire. The Roman Senate appoints Marcus Crassus, a ruthless politician and soldier, to suppress the slaves. Crassus allies with the young and promising Julius Caesar.
