The Straits

Filled with righteous anger and supported by his mother Kitty, Noel decides to expand the family's operations, without his father's knowledge, by setting up a methamphetamine lab in PNG. This leads to conflict with the DC Outlaw Motorcycle Gang, the family's drug customers on the mainland. When Noel's wife and children are threatened, Harry is forced to take charge.

Harry, Marou, and Noel go to PNG to square things with the Raskols and Quay Lin, the expat Chinese trader who works with them. Sissi, under the terms of Harry's succession plan, starts work with the family's accountant Paddy, one of Harry's oldest friends. In the process, she stumbles on evidence that Paddy has been embezzling money from the family for years.

Vlad, a hired killer, sets out for Cairns with a high powered rifle. Harry is his target, but who has hired Vlad? As Harry prepared for his and Kitty's wedding anniversary, Kitty takes Gary back to the islands to persuade the Zey Islanders they need to protect Gary better. Wrestling with her discovery of Paddy's embezzlement, Sissi finally tells Harry what she has learned.

Harry lies comatose in the hospital while his sons, led by Noel, go on the hunt for his attacker, calling on the Islander network in Cairns to assist. Noel is determined to exact revenge on what he believes is biker payback. Sissi, still traumatized by Harry's killing of Paddy, can't bring herself to be part of the family's bedside vigil for her father.

Police attention follows the blowing up of the clubhouse and Noel's siblings are angry with him. For the first time, Marou believes he would make the better leader. Lola is thrilled but also nervous that Harry will remember Gary's confession when he recovers and then banishes her from the family.

The family desperately try to free Marou who is being tortured by the DC bikies. The DC's - dealing only with Sissi - tell the Montebello's they must decide what price to put on Marou's life and then the DC's will decide if it's a fair deal. Meanwhile, Sissi is alarmed to encounter Paddy's nephew, the backpacking Thomson, who has come looking for his disappeared relative.

Fresh out of the hospital, Harry reasserts his authority and formulates a plan to get Noel out of prison. Sissi falls for Thomson and gets him a job exterminating cane toads at the wildlife farm. In an effort to earn his father's respect, he and Gary score a stash of drugs from a trader ship in the Straits and drive south to sell the drugs to another biker gang.

Kitty arrives on Zey island to find that Gary has become involved with Bridget, a sixteen-year-old local girl. Gary tells his mother that Bridget is a source of information which ultimately leads to the overthrow of a competing drug importation racket. Lola realizes Harry remembers everything and comes to beg his forgiveness.

Noel is on the run - from both the police and the DCs. He makes a clandestine visit to his estranged wife, Antoinette, telling her he's going to South America. To Noel's delight, Antoinette says that she wants to join him there, with the kids. Noel then heads north to the islands, planning to raise enough money to be able to live overseas with his family.

Marou arrives on Zey Island and accuses Gary of creating the circumstances that led to Lola's death. Gary is terrified and Marou goes off to get drunk enough to kill his brother. In Cairns, Sissi discovers Thomson is planning to leave town. Sissi realizes that she would rather be with Thomson than be saddled with the responsibility of the family's interests. She decides to leave with him.
