Geneviève, a young Frenchwoman who works in her mother’s small-town umbrella boutique, falls for dashing mechanic Guy. Their brief romance is interrupted when Guy is drafted to serve in the Algerian war. Pregnant, Geneviève has to choose between waiting for Guy or accepting an offer of marriage.
