In Cumbria, 2010 taxi driver Derek Bird took his gun and, in less than 24 hours, shot dead 12 people and injured 11 more. The callous killer only stopped when he had run out of ammunition, finally turning the gun on himself.

30 year old Trevor Hardy known as 'The Beast of Manchester' killed three teenage girls in a series of brutal attacks in the mid to late 1970's. He was given three life sentences and was one of Britain's longest serving prisoners.

Christopher Halliwell, a 47 year old cab-driver, strangled a twenty year old woman and evaded justice for 8 years until his arrest for killing another young female. He finally got a whole life sentence in 2016.

44 year serial killer John Cooper known as 'The Bullseye Killer', killed four people between 1983 and 1996, he was given four life sentences.

32 year old Vincent Tabak strangled his neighbour 25 year Joanna Yeates to death in her own flat in December 2010. In 2011 he was given a life sentence, with a minimum of 20 years.
