During World War I, Stan is ordered to guard a trench while Ollie and others advance. Twenty years later, still at his post, he is rescued by Ollie and taken to his apartment. Modern life quickly unravels as the two wreak havoc on neighbors, furniture, and patience in a string of classic slapstick disasters.
