In 2011, John Outlaw, a beloved high school football coach in Lufkin, Texas, died suddenly and unexpectedly during a morning run. For the 2012 season, Outlaw is replaced by former assistant coach Todd Quick. Quick is tested by players, but the relationship between the players and Todd quickly turns into a team running on the fumes of John Outlaw's guidance and the Panthers' new energy.
