Barnaby and Nelson discover that his death seems to be inspired by a classic song, "The Ballad of Midsomer County." As the detectives investigate, more bodies turn up, each murder inspired by a song lyric.

Barnaby investigates a local winery after the house vintage is found to be poisoned. The detective discovers that the toxic tasting may be related to the death of a child in a hit-and-run accident near the vineyard.
