Paige learns that Sumner is dying and agrees to go on a cruise with him. Tom Ryan reappears and Sumner's sister hatches a scheme.

Gary vanishes from the drunken car wreck set up by Danny, who ends up face-down in a swimming pool. Jeff returns from the dead, Anne and Claudia realize each is after Sumner's money, and a misunderstanding keeps Ryan and Paige at odds.

Jeff is caught at last. Paige and Tom reunite. Danny's body is found, but his death may not be accidental. Gary returns.

The police investigate Danny's murder, Anne phones an old lover about incriminating photos and Paige decides to seek new employment, away from Greg.

Anne's sinister houseguest investigates the blackmail letters, Levine discovers evidence linking Frank to Danny's murder, and Paige's promotion prompts rumors at work.

The solution to Danny's murder hinges on a much-loaned shirt. Nick sets up a money drop to catch the blackmailer as Anne falls for her former lover's mysterious henchman and tries to conceal her role in the scheme.

The truth about Danny's death comes to light as the police question an unlikely witness. Val calls off the wedding, Paige finds Greg unconscious and Nick double-crosses the scheming Anne.

Nick and Anne agree to split Conti's ransom, but first have to decide which of two identical suitcases holds the loot, and which the bomb. Paige sits vigil by Greg's hospital bed.

Anne and Nick devise a scheme to sort the cash from the explosives, but Tom Ryan beats them to it. Claudia manipulates the hospital into giving a donor liver to Greg. Val vanishes with the twins.

Anne and Nick decide to marry, Greg recovers from his liver transplant and Mack is harassed by Julie's friend, Jason. As Gary tries to find out what's wrong with the erratic Val, their twins teeter on the brink of tragedy.

As Christmas approaches, Claudia blackmails Anne and Nick into witnessing a forged version of Greg's will, Paige is sabotaged by Linda, Gary and Val struggle with her head injury.

Greg goes back to work, hospital bed and all, while fiancé Paige grows increasingly ambivalent about their relationship. Val refuses to believe her diagnosis and secretly stops her medication. Jason tells a worried Mack to leave him alone.

Karen discovers Val's deception, Frank unwittingly goes on a date with his daughter's teacher, and a beaten Jason turns to Mack for help.

Runaway Jason asks Julie for money so he can leave town. Kate's photographer date has a secret agenda, Frank grapples with his new relationship with Charlotte and Val realizes the extent of her brain injury when she stir-fries the twins' pet hermit crabs.

When the court sends Jason back to his abusive father, Mack helps him escape and faces kidnapping charges by refusing to reveal the boy's whereabouts.

A judge gives Mack 24 hours to return Jason to his father, and the publicity puts Karen in a quandary. Valene's unimproved mental state doesn't shake Gary's love, to Anne's disgust.

Anne becomes entangled with Nick again, but their hotel room tryst turns into a murder mystery when he presents her with a dead woman and a treasure hunt. Mack gets a suspended sentence as Dick Lochner regains custody of Jason.

Mack is notified that Jason was badly beaten by his father and is in the hospital, unconscious. Kate confides in half-brother Steve that she thinks he was the result of their mother's being raped, and Gary's puppies frustrate Anne and Nick's greed.

Nick and Anne retrieve their treasure from the puppy and shop it around. Frank's romance with her teacher leads Julie into broaching the topic of condoms.

An attraction develops between Paige and her new assistant, Steve. Paige walks in on Greg and Linda. Anna and Nick search for gainful employment after being informed their newfound wealth is counterfeit.

Greg offers Claudia a job to keep her and her daughter Kate, who reminds him of his own daughter, in town. Steve learns that the Sumner Group was responsible for his family's ruin. Valene receives a hopeful diagnosis.

Anne discovers the father of Claudia's son was Paul Galveston, Sumner's father, which makes Steve an heir. A careless move costs Kate her tennis career and Paige and Linda are forced to work together.

A fire at the Sumner Group building traps Val and Gary's wedding party inside while the happy couple entertains itself outside in the shrubbery.
