The Supervet

Tonight in the first programme in a powerful new season of The Supervet, Labradoodle Mitzi is rushed into the practice after running out onto the road and being hit by a car. Professor Noel Fitzpatrick is concerned she could have nerve damage and Sheila and her daughter, Catherine, fear the worst.

Four year-old Canicross Champion, Marley, is admitted to Fitzpatricks after being diagnosed with severe dysplasia of the elbow. Mel fears his condition will force him to retire from the sled sports the pair regularly compete in.

In tonight's episode, Professor Noel Fitzpatrick is faced with one of his most challenging cases yet. Bella the Boxer is referred to the practice after being involved in a road accident a year earlier that left her with extensive injuries to her pelvis and hind legs.

In this week's episode, Caroline arrives at Fitzpatrick's with fourteen of her rescue dogs, including Cookie, a tiny 4 year-old Papillon. Cookie has developed polyarthritis that has destroyed the cartilage in her elbows. Noel offers Cookie a double total knee replacement - the smallest he has done yet.

Pug-mad Mother and daughter Deborah and Rebecca bring in their beloved 8-year old pug, Marley. Marley has been suffering with medical issues throughout his life and now severe pain in his elbow is making it difficult for him to walk. Deborah and Rebecca want to avoid amputation but it's a big decision to go ahead with the surgery they hope will save his leg.

In tonight's episode, Wilson, a three year-old Newfoundland, is struggling to walk on his severely bent front legs. He's already undergone several operations, but so far no vet has been able to successfully straighten his legs. This could be Wilson's last chance.

Ken has travelled through the night to bring his much-loved Doberman, Clyde, down from Cumbria especially to see Professor Noel Fitzpatrick. Clyde is suffering with a severely diseased spinal cord that will continue to deteriorate if he doesn't undergo surgery. It will be a high-risk operation but if Clyde doesn't receive the treatment he needs he may face euthanasia.

This week Professor Noel Fitzpatrick comes to the aid of two-year-old Bichon Frise, Lexi, who has suffered with elbow pain all her life. As Lexi struggles to walk, Ann has resorted to taking her out in a pushchair. Noel suggests inserting a cutting-edge surgical implant and using stem cells to grow new bone around it.

In tonight's episode, Teddy the Shih-Tzu cross is brought in to see Professor Noel Fitzpatrick with severely deformed front legs. He lives with 24-year-old Ellen, who has severe learning difficulties. She wants to give him the chance to live a life without pain, but it proves a challenge to come up with a surgical solution to solve the problem.

Andrea travels one thousand six hundred miles from Romania with her rescue dog, Clifford, in the hope that Professor Noel Fitzpatrick can cure his chronic back pain caused by a squashed spinal chord. Clifford's condition makes him very short tempered, and his small size makes the operation tricky.

This week Professor Noel Fitzpatrick is faced with a huge challenge when Jo brings in her three-month old rescue spaniel puppy Poppy whose front legs are so severely deformed she has never been able to stand up, let alone walk properly. Poppy was found abandoned in a garden, probably due to her abnormal legs.

The Supervet kicks off this week with a dramatic emergency when two-year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Lulu is rushed into Fitzpatrick Referrals late at night after being hit by a car travelling at 40mph. The huge impact has shattered her pelvis into over 25 pieces.

Mischievous and pampered young Basset Hound Barney is 'top dog' in Pat, and daughters Lyn and Michelle's home, especially since Pat's husband died last year. Salmon and venison are some of his favourite treats. But lately Barney's been suffering from weakness in his back legs. The girls bring him in to Fitzpatricks where an issue with Barney's neck is identified.

In this week's episode Steve brings in two-year old Mastif Maya to discuss her options for treatment with Noel. Maya is the large dog Steve always wanted to join him and his family, and they are devastated when Maya is diagnosed with a bone tumour in her leg at such a young age.

Gary and Warin bring in their six-year old Shih Tzu, called Lucky. She's been referred to Fitzpatrick's with severe arthritis in her hip. She's in so much pain that she is on a diet of painkillers and can barely walk, and Gary has to carry her everywhere. However when Professor Noel Fitzpatrick examines Lucky he is worried that her symptoms could signal something more serious than arthritis.

At Fitzpatrick Referrals one of Professor Noel Fitzpatrick's Senior Neurologists, Jeremy, is faced with an extremely challenging case. Arlo, a 7 month old Chihuahua was born with hydrocephalus, a neurological disorder where excessive fluid accumulates on the brain resulting in a bulging head. If left untreated Arlo will not survive the condition.

Baloo, a very large Great Dane, makes a big entrance to the practice when he comes in for major spinal surgery. Baloo is suffering from Wobbler Syndrome, a condition that often affects this breed. He is coming in for an operation to relieve the pressure on his spinal cord, but at 85kg, he'll be one of the biggest dogs that Professor Noel Fitzpatrick has ever performed this surgery on.

At the end of a busy day, Milo, a beautiful two-year old Bengal cat, is rushed in to Fitzpatrick Referrals by Sharada and Philip after being hit by a car. Milo's life hangs by a thread, and when Professor Noel Fitzpatrick examines the x-ray pictures they reveal that Milo has broken his back and dislocated his spine.

In this Supervet Christmas Special Professor Noel Fitzpatrick is asked to help a very unusual visitor to the practice; a Humboldt Penguin chick with a very unhappy foot! Wall-e is from Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire, and an orphan as both his mother and father died.
