Maddy Smith is an almost normal teen living with her parents in a small rural town. The “almost” is because she’s a Wolfblood! Neither completely wolves nor humans, Wolfbloods have great powers – super speed, strength and senses – and can change from one form to another.
A girl is home alone on a full moon when she hears a noise outside... She bravely goes to see what it is and is confronted by two wolves escaping from INSIDE her house! She controls them back into the cellar - her eyes flashing golden - who is this girl? She’s Maddy Smith and she’s a wolfblood. Maddy meets her friends Tom and Shannon at school.
Maddy’s mum Emma is worried about Rhydian growing up in care, with no wolfblood support. She wants to invite him around for dinner to teach him about wolfblood ways and how they fit into human society. Shannon has proof at last! She has a photo of a wolf and puts posters up of it all over the school.
It’s the school art exhibition and the theme is family. Rhydian puts up a picture of a lonely boy, with silhouettes of parents in the distant background. He storms out when the 3 Ks comment on it. Tom has put up loads of pictures of him and his dad at football matches, he is excited that his dad is coming to the exhibition.
Maddy’s got her exams coming up, but she isn’t feeling very well and is grouchy - her first change is coming... Tom reminds her she forgot to help him with his English revision for the exam tomorrow and she promises to make it up to him at break; but at break she is struggling pre-change and Rhydian takes her for a run to blow off steam.
It’s full moon tonight and Maddy is anxious about her first transformation, but also bursting with the energy that a full moon brings. The school are on a day trip to the historic isle of Lindisfarne, but Maddy and Rhydian are feeling cramped in the ancient stoney ruins and are not looking forward to spending the night in the den...
The wolf energy is still strong in Maddy’s blood, she gets carried away in assembly watching the street dance club and joins in with their routine. She is fantastic, (which puts Kay’s nose right out of joint!). Everyone now thinks Maddy is cool, especially Dean Samuels, the cutest boy in school!
When there is no moon, wolfbloods become lethargic and are stripped of their powers. Tomorrow is no moon and Maddy and Rhyidian aren’t looking forward to it! Stuck in detention, mischievous Maddy decides to have some fun and gets Rhydian to join in. Whilst Mr Jeffries slips out they take the school trophy and hide it on the school roof - Maddy accidentally cuts herself whilst doing this.
Animals have been going missing around the village and Shannon thinks that the beast is back. Instead of having their movie night, she wants them to all go beast hunting. At first Maddy isn’t keen to go, wanting a wolf free night, but when Shannon tells Maddy that her mum is sending her to a psychiatrist because of her beast fixation, Maddy agrees to go.
It’s the night before full moon and Rhydian is spending a practice night in the Smith’s den. The next day on their way to school Maddy and Rhydian sniff out some stolen goods -Sinclair gear hidden in the woods! They take a few t-shirts for themselves, Tom and Shannon. Shannon doesn’t want a t-shirt as they aren’t ethically made, but the 3 Ks overhear and start bartering for the spare t-shirt.
Maddy, Rhydian, Tom and Shannon are playing in the woods when Tom notices someone spying on them. Maddy and Rhydian catch their scent - the wild wolfblood is back... Bernie, who owns the local village shop, fills them in about a homeless women who has been sleeping rough in the woods.
Rhydian is dabbling with his Eolas powers in school, showing off to his school mates. Maddy can’t understand how he is doing it, the tricks go beyond Wolfblood senses and speed. Rhydian shares his secret with Maddy. It’s something his mum taught him, Eolas, which wild wolfbloods use to connect themselves with nature.
It is the day of the full moon and Maddy and Rhydian aren’t looking forward to a night in the den. Rhydian tries to talk Maddy into escaping, but Maddy knows she can’t - her parents would be furious! Shannon has been trying to forget about the beast by throwing herself into other interests.
Shannon is worried about the wolves and their safety; now people know they exist, they may be hunted. She plans to inform the Department of the Environment so they can protect the wolves, but first needs proof that the wolves exist and she knows how to get it - Carl’s wolfbait! Maddy and Rhydian are worried, they have to get the bait before Shannon gets her hands on it.
