Random Breath Test

Follow the police units for a unique, behind-the-scenes look at RBT patrols testing for alcohol and drug affected drivers. Tonight, it's a major Police Operation on the streets of Adelaide. Police are set up on major thoroughfare. One unlucky driver is footy fanatic Andrew who registered a reading after knocking back some Ale in honor of his beloved football team winning their game.

In Adelaide's North-West Police have set up a static site testing for drink and drug driving. They spot a small red car appearing to avoid the site. Behind the wheel is a 20-year-old P-Plater who claims he's been kicked out of home. He's clear for alcohol but positive for meth. He can't drive his car for 24 hours, and it's cold comfort that at least he can sleep in his parked car.

There's a full moon rising on a holiday weekend. Police are watching out for anyone avoiding the testing site. Within minutes they spot their first customer. 33-year-old brickie's labourer Daniel has moved down to the city to be closer to his two young sons. But one slip up the night before could undo all his best efforts.

A small business owner downed 9 standard drinks over 3 and a half hours then decided to duck out in his van to pick up a delivery from the airport. When questioned about turning off to avoid the RBT site he claims he was taking a short-cut. But the only short-cut he's taking is in the direction of the RBT testing bus.

Police in Adelaide break into pursuit when a hotted up car flashes past them. They pull over 24-year-old Grant who's a cool customer. He admits to drinking a potent cider called Little Fat lamb, "They're good. They're 2.4 standard drinks in a can" But will that Little fat Lamb cider give Grant a big fat reading.?

The final siren's sounded on one of the year's biggest football game and Police are ready and waiting. One fan after blowing high-range roadside, is in the bus trying to recall his drinks tally. Outside the bus is his mate 'Walnut' gives the game away with the spoils of their afternoon.

3 shirtless men in an open top Mini Moke are happily chugging on some open top beers. DSo there's plenty on view to raise police suspicions. Driver Bailey says he's never done a breath test before. After a day of fun in the sun is Bailey about to be burned?

Tony's had a big day. The painter & decorator started work at 6am then caught up with friends at the pub. The last thing he ate was a sausage roll 12 hours ago at 'Smoko'. He had a few drinks with his mates delivering him a mid-range reading. He'd been down this path 5 years ago and after his marriage then fell apart he doesn't want history to repeat itself.

In one of the busiest months of the Adelaide calendar RBT sites are stationed across the city. Police are also in a sidestreet ready to catch anyone avoiding the RBT sites. 21-year-old Nikki is headed to a friends place after dinner and drinks at the pub. Officers stop he in her tracks. She's out of breath but is she out of luck?

78 year-old Sergio has had a night he'd rather forget. He pulled the plug on a wedding party that grew too loud for comfort. Sergio admits to a few drinks and when he blows over the limit he begins to give police a run for their money. Wife Vida's along for the ride trying to calm the waters. Pro fisherman Albie moved to Australia's fishing capital, Port Lincoln to get away from it all. But, after a few drinks he didn't manage to get away from the RBT patrol. With a fresh fish for dinner in the back of his car, Albie's getting that sinking feeling.

Police never know what to expect on the night of a full moon. And 58-year-old electrician Raymond didn't expect police would catch him at his avoidance game when he pulls into a dark car park. Off for a trip to Bali in the morning the last thing Raymond wants is a trip to the police station.
