Lecture 29. Henry VIII, formerly called Defender of the Faith by the Pope, broke with Rome over his marital difficulties. The English (Anglican) Church was born. John Knox moved Scotland in the direction of Calvinist Christianity. The Dutch fought against Spain and Rome for their political and religious freedom. And France wavered between toleration and persecution of Protestant Huguenots.
