In 1944, Phoebe asks Gary to take their son, Michael, out for a walk in the pram. But when a German bomb hits while they’re out, the blast sends them both back to the future, where Gary must explain the baby’s presence to Yvonne.

Having moved to the West End to avoid air raids, Phoebe has trouble fitting in to her new, upper-crust surroundings and wants to take elocution lessons-from Noël Coward, who lives nearby.

When a bomb hits Ducketts Passage, Phoebe is unexpectedly able to follow Gary through the portal to his shop in 1998. Gary tries to keep Phoebe occupied so he can sneak off to his dinner date with Yvonne.

When Ron travels to 1944, Gary realizes that the time gate is malfunctioning. As Gary tries to keep Ron in check in the past, Yvonne arranges for the boys to get free tickets to a Chelsea Football Club match.

In need of more 1940s currency, Gary tries his hand at betting on horse racing, but his plan isn’t as foolproof as he expected. Ron makes a suggestion to help Gary out but ends up in hot water himself.

While out at dinner, Gary and Phoebe are approached by an MI5 officer who accuses Gary of being a spy. To save his neck, Gary agrees to impersonate a French colonel on a trip to the Isle of Wight.

Having been tricked into a mission to France, Gary meets up with a member of the French Resistance and realizes that his excursion may influence the D-Day invasion. But will he survive long enough to see it?

The strain of living two lives is giving Gary nightmares, and Ron suggests he take a holiday to get his head together. Meanwhile, Ron is broke and asks Gary if he can live in the Mayfair flat Gary bought in the 1940s.

Phoebe is secretly taking singing lessons from Noël Coward, but Gary suspects she’s seeing another man. After Gary learns about a fatal car accident 55 years ago, he presumes he was the one killed and decides to stay away from 1944 until the danger has passed.

With Phoebe’s newfound interest in singing, Gary reluctantly agrees to write a song for her. Back at his shop, Gary realizes that a down-on-his-luck customer is his adult son and tries to change the past to help him.
