1. Harvey Barnum, Robert Ingram, Bernard Fisher
Colonel Barnum assumed command of the rifle company, rallying and reorganizing units to stabilize the decimated group as he stood exposed to point out targets. HC3c Ingram, during a firefight in Quang Ngai Province, continued to treat wounded Marines even after being seriously wounded himself. Colonel Fisher led a 2 ship element of Skyraiders to support troops in contact with the enemy.
2. Richard Pittman, John McGinty, Robert Modrzejewski
Sergeant Pittman's daring initiative, bold fighting spirit and selfless devotion to duty inflicted many enemy casualties, disrupted the enemy attack and saved the lives of many of his wounded comrades. Staff Sergeant McGinty fought off enemy hordes while aiding the wounded. During Operation Hastings, Captain Modrzejewski repelled numerous attacks and regained ammunition and supplies to his men.
3. Howard Lee, George Bud Day, Leo Thorsness
Major Lee's actions saved his men from capture, minimized the loss of lives, and dealt the enemy a severe defeat. Col. Day was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. His maximum resistance and personal bravery in the face of deadly enemy pressure was significant in saving the lives of fellow aviators. Lt. Col. Thorsness, critically short on fuel, helped avert further possible loss of life.
4. James Livingston, Joe Jackson, William McGonagle
Captain Livingston led a succesful assault to rescue captive marines in Dai Do. Wounded, he remained in a dangerously exposed area, deploying his men to more tenable positions and supervising the evacuation of casualties. Colonel Jackson received the MOH for a dangerous impromptu rescue operation of 3 American military personnel. Cpt. McGonagle commanded the USS Liberty during the Six Day War.
5. Donald Ballard, James Fleming, Wesley Fox
While under fire, HC2c Ballard directed aid to other wounded US Marines and when a grenade landed nearby, he lay on top of it to protect the wounded. Col. Fleming rescued a 6-man MACV-SOG Recon Team, stranded between heavily defended enemy positions, near Đức Cơ, Vietnam. Capt. Fox refused medical attention & supervised the preparation of casualties for medical evacuation in A Shau Valley.
6. Joseph
Lt. (j.g) Kerrey led his SEAL team on a mission to capture important members of the enemy's area political cadre known to be located on an island in the bay of Nha Trang. Lt. Cmdr. Kelley disregarded his severe injuries and continued successfully directing other boats. Private 1st Class Clausen rescued Marines from a minefield, under heavy fire. He carried out one dead and eleven wounded Marines.
7. Allan Kellogg Jr, Thomas Norris, James Stockdale, Jay Vargas, Harold Fritz
Kellogg threw himself on top of a grenade. Lt. Norris rescued two downed pilots in Quang Tri Province. Adm. Stockdale resolved to make himself a symbol of resistance regardless of personal sacrifice. Major Jay Vargas inspired his men to renew their relentless advance, while destroying a number of enemy bunkers. Cpt. Fritz assisted his men, & refused medical attention until all were evacuated.
