The Churchmen

The charismatic Father Fromenger welcomes the new students: Yann, from an idyllic upbringing in Breton; Emmanuel, an archeologist struggling with depression; Guillame, emerging from a dysfunctional home; and Raphael, the son of a wealthy entrepreneur. Last to join is Jose, just out of prison for killing a man.

Father Fromenger feels wracked with guilt from a harsh exchange with Bishop Roman and Raphael's father asks him to reconsider his decision to become a priest.

The realities of parish life sober them all and during the visit, Guillame gets a distress call from his sister. Father Bosco travels secretly to Rome, where he attempts to intercede on Father Fromenger's behalf.

Without dissuading them, Father Fromenger reminds them that they will not always have the seminary for support. The Vatican faces a crisis with China over the appointment of a state-approved bishop.

Father Bosco gets disturbing information and Father Fromenger receives a letter from the Vatican asking for help with the Chinese negotiations.
