Wild Arabia

The series opener takes a trip into the vast sandy desert that makes up most of the Arabian peninsula. Horned vipers hunt scorpions that glow in the dark, a long-legged jerboa makes enormous leaps and Bedouin nomads race camels.

The Dhofar Coast, on the border of Oman and Yemen, features an amazing variety of wildlife. Striped hyenas battle with wolves, foxes steal the the eggs of green sea turtles and local researchers come across a rare Arabian leopard.

The discovery of oil and the wealth it generated have altered the Arab relationship with nature. Camel racing is a high-tech sport, technology is used to protect nature and a carbon-neutral city is being built in the region.
