In the near future, there exist many "trash games" with abysmal gameplay unable to keep up with visual advances. Rakuro Hizutome is a man who has a passion for beating such trash games, making him a "Trash Game Hunter." The game he's challenging now is a polar opposite of a trash game; a "god-tier game" that has over thirty million players, Shangri-La Frontier.

Rakuro was enjoying SLF with his bird-headed, half-naked character "Sunraku," but he fell into trouble after taking poison from his battle against the Rampant Forest Area Boss, Ravenous Python. Meanwhile, Psyger-0 a.k.a. Rei Saiga who has a crush on Rakuro was looking for Sunraku in the beginners' town, Firstia.

Sunraku was struggling against Redcap Goblins, one of the Seven Collosi, Lycagon the Nightslayer, appeared before him. It has been a year since the game was released, and over thirty million players, but nobody has ever defeated this Unique Monster. Sunraku counters the deadly attacks from such a powerful enemy, but he cannot make up for the overwhelming difference in ability between them...

After being acknowledged by the boss of Rabituza, Vysache, Sunraku received a travel partner in the form of a special Vorpal Bunny, Emul. In the midst, he got a call from his trash game friend, Modor Katzo, to a fight in the trash game "Berserk Online Passion." After hearing about how great SLF is from Sunraku, Modor Katzo informed the news that Sunraku now plays SLF to a certain individual...

Sunraku ended up fighting the area boss "Mud Digger," which is possibly the worst match-up ever for him. With his leg dragged down by the muck, he kept trying with the help of Emul. Meanwhile, the other players began talking about Emul's existence, and Sunraku and the Lycagon's Mark on his body. Following this, two peculiar players make contact with Sunraku.

Sunraku is ambushed by his trash game friend, Pencil Knight, aka Arthur Pencilgon. In SLF, she's known as the "Giant Killer" for always killing higher-level players, and the No.2 member of the Player Kill clan "Ashura Kai," and now she's trying to have Sunraku reveal about Unique Scenario. Animalia fixated on Emul, and Psyger-0 rushed in. Many thoughts are interwinding surrounding Sunraku.

Thanks to the help from Psyger-0 and Emul, Sunraku managed to run away from Pencilgon and the other PK'ers. Now arriving at Thidrema, Sunraku gets to tackle his "Invitation from Rabituza" Unique Scenario, which brought him to the arena. He ended up having to fight ten monsters, but the first monster turned out to be at a level much higher than Sunraku had imagined.

The tenth opponent is "Aberrant Woodmage." With the mission of surviving for five minutes against a level 120 monster, Sunraku is facing a hard battle, dodging unreasonable attacks. In the middle of the struggle, Sunraku realized that he'd been fighting with cold feet. With a new outlook, Sunraku changed his strategy into that of a Trash Game Hunter.

With the Ashura Kai now preferring to play things safe, Pencilgon ran out of patience with them and swore to defeat one of the Seven Colossi, Wethermon the Tombguard. Meanwhile, Psyger-0 found Sunraku in Thirderma by chance and sent him a friend request... After that, Sunraku faces a spider-type monster in the Prismatic Forest Grotto.

Sunraku faces Clown Spider, the Area Boss of the Prismatic Forest Grotto. After claiming he'd beat it without taking any damage or dying, he fights using the new skills he got after fighting in the arena. Meanwhile, in a different game world, Pencilgon called in Sunraku and the pro gamer OiKatzo, who are still new to SLF, and approached them with an absurd proposal.

Emul was surprised to hear that Sunraku would be fighting Wethermon the Tombguard and told Vash about it. After sensing Sunraku's unwavering will to take on the challenge, Vash decided to forge Sunraku's weapons. With a new resolve, Sunraku followed Pencilgon's instruction and headed to the Iron Ruins of the Divinity with OiKatzo.

To defeat Wethermon the Tombgoard, Sunraku and OiKatzo go to grind level in a hidden area in the Iron Ruins of the Divinity. The two had fun fighting the giant fish monster "Lifestide Lake Serpent" in the lake. They then meet up with Pencilgon, who tells them that, to fight Wethermon the Tombguard, they first need to talk with a certain Unique NPC during a full moon.

Sunraku and his friends go to Prismatic Forest Grotto to meet up with Unique NPC, Setsuna of Bygone Days. Sunraku and OiKatzo were dumbfounded seeing Pencilgon trying to fulfill Setsuna's wish. In preparation for the battle with Wethermon the Tombguard, Sunraku returns to play that fighting game full of bugs, BERP.

This time, Sunraku was fighting an endangered species in BERP: a new player named Dragonfly. As a veteran who has researched various bugs in the game, Sunraku dealt with Dragonfly with ease, but Dragonfly then showed him an unknown bugged move! After that, Sunraku returned to SLF to meet with OiKatzo and Pencilgon, where Pencilgon told them that a problem had occurred.

On the night of the new moon, on the day SLF's massive summer update was implemented, Ashura Kai was ambushed by an alliance of clans, including Psyger-0. Meanwhile, Sunraku, OiKatzo, and Pencilgon finally face off with Wethermon the Tombguard in the Hidden Garden. Sunraku comes to fight Wethermon head-on, facing his god-speed slashes.

Sunraku, OiKatzo, and Pencilgon make use of resurrection items in their fight with Wethermon the Tombguard, but it is anything but easy. Ten minutes after the battle started, Wethermon summoned a Tactical Mount, Kirin. OiKatzo tried to deal with Kirin, but facing a 5-meter-sized giant mech proved to be quite challenging.

The battle with Wethermon the Tombguard is reaching the next phase. Pencilgon and OiKatzo utilize rare items to face the transformed Kirin. Meanwhile, as Wethermon the Tombguard is crumbling down, Sunraku begins his counterattack to defeat him.

With OiKatzo and Pencilgon gradually exposing Kirin's weak point, they finally move on to their sure-fire plan to take the mech down. Meanwhile, Sunraku correctly guessed that the only way to win was to survive Wethermon the Tombguard's unavoidable ultimate strike, "Sky Radiance," and geared up to do just that.

Weatherman went to his long slumber, and Setsuna of Bygone Days left a hint leading to unveiling the secret hidden in SLF lore. The announcement of SLF's first-ever Unique Monster kill reached out to all players in the game. Meanwhile, the angry members of Ashura Kai appeared in front of the trio, who were already worn out from the earlier fight.

With the defeat of Wethermon the Tombguard, the company that developed SLF, Utopia Inc., was in a state of confusion. Meanwhile, Sunraku, the man at the center of this unexpected development leading to the story's progression, had already moved on and was checking the loot he got from beating Wethermon. And, when he puts the item he obtained onto his arm...

"Unique Monster is worth a ton of money," said Pencilgon before she proposed to Sunraku and OiKatzo that they should form a Clan together. After they finished their meeting, Sunraku received a "Non-Standard Ether Ractor" from OiKatzo and returned to Rabituza Palace, coming up with an idea.

Bilac accepted Sunraku's proposal and decided to become an Ancient Craftsman. To become an Ancient Craftsman, they headed to the Inner Canyon of Ancient Souls to obtain a Divinity-era "Magic Application Unit." While lower-level monsters ran off from Sunraku because of his Lycagon's Mark, a Rare Enemy named Dullahan General stood up against them. Bilac readied her hammer to fight.

Sunraku, Emul, and Bilac were fighting the Area Boss of Inner Canyon of Ancient Souls, the Humming Lich. Although they can deal damage, the situation was far from favorable. They managed to change the tide using the Decapitator enhanced by Bilac, but with only eight strikes available to him, Sunraku marches forward.

Sunraku ignored Emul and Bilac's warning and returned to Crystal Cliff Nests, encountering a horde of above-level 100 Crystal Scorpions. Although his goal was simply to grab just any rare material, it didn't go so well for him. However, after observing the scorpions' movements, he noticed "something" and came up with an plan...

Bilac found jewels among all the stuff Sunraku brought. To show them to a jeweler, she introduced Sunraku to Arameese, the vice-captain of the Booted Musketeers, a Sword Master from an allied nation, Cazzeria. Along with Emul, Bilac, and Aramesse, Sunraku returned to Eighdold, where he met the leader of the clan Library, Professor.
