Kino's Journey

When Kino and Hermes stop in a town they discover that there are people that live in this seemingly abandoned hamlet that are afraid of any human contact.

Kino runs across a group of men that have been stranded and snow in for days in the mountains. Kino decides to help the men get back on their feet and finds them food.

The inhabitants of the next town that Kino and Hermes visit claim the end is coming. But when the world doesn`t end, the local priests claim there was an error in the translation of the prophecy.

This is the tale of how Kino and Hermes first met each other.

Kino and Hermes come across three men who have worked for the railroad all their lives doing the same thing and never told to stop what they are doing.

Kino ends up in a city where they have a modernized form of gladiator combat. The winner becomes a citizen of the kingdom and gets the chance to make a new rule for the realm.

Kino has made it to the finals and the combat becomes very fierce. She thinks about the king's own son who wants revenge on his father, but it may be Kino that strikes the killing blow.

Kino and Hermes stop in a country where the residents think this one lady is strange since all she can think about is flying. With some encouragement from Kino, she starts flying.

Kino and Hermes arrive in the Land of Books, a country whose library gathers together all the books in the world, but locks away those considered ?harmful', leaving only the most wholesome and inoffensive out on display.

While searching for a technologically advanced country, Kino and Hermes find an old woman who claims to be a maid. This lifelike android is more than happy to assist them.

As Kino recalls her past, she cannot help remembering an encounter with a dying wise man that ultimately proved that even observers can have an effect.

Kino and Hermes visit a land that prides itself on a being a peaceful nation. She visits the local museum only to discover this nation's definition of 'peace' is far more disturbing than she could have imaged.

When Kino hears of a land where travelers are shunned, she decides to visit anyway and experience the people's attitude for herself. To her surprise, however, the inhabitants are extremely friendly and welcoming.
