Great Expectations (1981)

One Christmas Eve, Pip encounters the escaped convict Magwitch hiding in the churchyard, and Pip is persuaded into stealing.

Pip learns that Uncle Pumblechook has arranged for him to go to the home of the eccentric Miss Havisham, who has a whim for a local boy.

Pip is continuing his visits to Satis House and keeps trying to placate and impress Estella – with little success.

Mr Jaggers informs Pip that an unknown benefactor has provided Pip with ‘great expectations’ – he is to leave for London where he is to lead the life of a gentleman.

After meeting his fellow students, Startop and Bentley Drummle, Pip has an instant dislike for one.

Joe and his country manners visit the Garden Court only to embarrass Pip.
