11th-century England. The orphan Rob Cole is taken in by a travelling barber-surgeon, who becomes his first teacher in the art of healing. His life changes when he meets a wandering physician who recognizes his extraordinary talent and determination, and inspires him with a dream of studying under the legendary Ibn Sina, physician to the Persian kings. Rob sets out for Isfahan.
