Bhubaneswar boasts many magnificent buildings. The capital of the Indian province of Orissa is well known for its fine Hindu temples and for several years has been a popular destination for both tourists and pilgrims. At one time, the ancient Bhubaneswar featured 7000 sanctuaries and was known as the Temple City of India. Five hundred temples have survived.
