Ten-year-old Joe lives with her abusive and drug addicted stepfather in a trailer park. When he dies of an overdose, she takes off in his beat-up car. Jo spends her days on the riverbank with her best friend Selma, fishing and looking for scrap metal. At night for comfort she listens to folk songs sung by her alleged biological father.
