American Girl, Girl of the Year: Meet Kira Bailey

Kira Bailey is heading from Michigan to Australia for a summer of fun, adventure, and lots of adorable Australian animals! And what is she most excited about? Meeting the newest addition to the Bailey Wildlife Sanctuary - a new baby Koala!

Kira Bailey has the best time ever as she navigates life at the wildlife sanctuary. She makes an unexpected furry friend, learns that Australia's seasons are the opposite of the US, discovers that everyone is on alert for wild fires and finally meets Baby Bean! And, she gets to do all of this with her new bestie - Alexis! Life could not be better!

The emotions run high at the camp, as everyone is on the look out for a predator after Kira and Alexis find and rescue an injured baby wallaby! Meanwhile, the tensions are growing between the girls as they compete over who should be taking care of Baby Bean! And, to top this all, Kira's beloved aunt Mamie has to be rushed to the hospital!

Mamie's illness leads to Kira and her mom extending their stay. Meanwhile, a mysterious predator everyone is trying to catch keeps hurting small animals! The situation reaches a breaking point when Kira and Alexis fight over feeding Bean, and Kira makes a rookie mistake that puts wombats in danger!

The wombats had escaped and now are in danger! It's a do-something situation for Kira as she sets out on a solo rescue mission into the wild bush! But it's getting dark, and she went too far into unknown territory! Is she lost?! Is that fire that she smells!? How will she find her way back to the camp? But she is not alone - Alexis is right there to help!

Kira learns that the furry friend she has been feeding bacon is the predator who's been hurting the animals! Auntie Mamie helps Kira understand that to learn means to make mistakes. After catching the predator, Kira helps prepare Bean to leave the Sanctuary and meet his new mom. In the end, Kira learns from her mistake and is ready for her next big adventure!
