Rutting Season - Roebuck Calling buck Görlsdorff

Like most German forest rangers, he is an experienced hunter with an impressive knowledge of roe deer and roe deer hunting. His experience and skills are equally important when calling the roe buck with the call that imitates the sound of a doe, ready to mate. But the buck needs to be exactly the right one!

The roe deer call imitates the sound of a doe in the rut. Using a variety of squeaks and squeezes, German forest ranger Thomas Wengert succeeds in getting the buck on its feet so that he can decide whether Rikke can shoot or not. Rikke must be ready! The shooting stick is an extremely helpful utensil in the open fields.

The older buck is with a doe. In that situation, it will rarely react to the roe deer call. Another buck appears. But even though it is slowly passing the field just in front of the two hunters, this buck, too, totally ignores the eager calling of the local hunting guide, Thomas Wengert. This time, there is another explanation.

Morning has broken, and Rikke and Thomas, her guide, are trying their luck in the open land. A young buck is already at the scene, enjoying the coolness of the first daylight, and Thomas starts calling.

It’s late summer. Time to hunt roe bucks in the rut. Two Danes have come to Germany to experience a way of hunting, which is new to them. Jakob Mielcke and his friend and hunting companion Adam Dyrvig Tatt are facing a challenge … where special equipment is required.

Jakob and his hunting guide, Thomas Wengert, are back in the area, they hunted in yesterday. They don’t have to wait long for the first buck to show up, but as Jakob has previously experienced, young, promising bucks, like this one, are not shot here. Instead, Thomas will try to find an old buck that he knows is residing somewhere in the vicinity.

A roe buck in is approaching, attracted by the call. Obviously a yearling, and just as obviously a deer to cull. It has a relatively small body, even for the age, and thin and short spike antlers. Lacking the experience of the older bucks, it may sense danger, but the feeling of curiosity is often stronger.

Jacob is not totally confident as to where he hit the red deer. Judged from it’s reaction to the shot, though, everything is fine. But things went so fast as it dived into the dense pine cover. However, Jakob’s thoughts are soon led in another direction when all of a sudden, a buck appears on the scene.

After a lecture on how to communicate with roe bucks, Thomas and Adam arrives at an area that seems ideal to translate that knowledge into practice. In this diverse landscape, several roe buck territories border on one another. And in the silent morning, with hardly a wind moving, the peeping from the roe buck call can be heard over a long distance.
