Drowning in Plastic

It looks like paradise but on a remote beach in Australia, newly-hatched Flesh Footed Shearwater chicks are filling up on deadly plastic instead of food. Some are so weighted down, they can’t make it to the sea. Our precious coral reefs, home to 25% of all marine life, are dying. This is the chilling reality of our use of plastic. What can we do to save our blue planet?

This show will make you recycle like your life depends on it - in fact, your life really does. But there’s only so much that you, an individual, can do about large-scale plastic pollution. Big industry is the largest contributor to ocean plastic, particularly the fishing industry. It will take an army of scientists to find a solution to this crisis. Wildlife biologist Liz Bonnin meets them.
