Rogelio takes refuge in the El Milagro parish church after stealing from his partner-in-crime, El Jetas. He is mistaken for the new seminarian. Caught up in the farce, Rogelio is pursued by his enemy while becoming familiar with the picturesque and endearing neighbors, including the beautiful María Marta.

Rogelio, worried about his bag, goes in search of Lázaro. María Marta publicly accuses Burgos of kidnapping her brother, and Rogelio gets asked to perform a novena for Doña Beatriz.

The neighborhood is flooded by a rain storm, and the neighbors bring their belongings out on the sidewalks to protect them from the water. Rogelio ends up stealing several items, and his neighbors search desperately for the thief, who is closer than they think.

Lázaro and Tutaina agree to a daring wager that puts the El Milagro neighbors’ homes on the line: a soccer match in which Lázaro’s team, which includes Rogelio, María Marta, Salomón, and Camilo, is to face Burgos’ team comprised of players from the El Milagro pro team, including “El Tren” Valencia and Beatriz.

Rogelio offers to hear confessions from his jail cell. Among the first to arrive is María Marta, who confesses she is in love with a secret admirer from the neighborhood. Jiménez overhears the conversation and grows hopeful, thinking that she is talking about him, but his smile fades later when he discovers that some of the cells are empty and his prisoners have escaped.

The arrival of Juan Hermosillo revolutionizes El Milagro. Beatriz and her pious accomplices start to doubt the truth of Rogelio’s vocation and he decides to leave the neighborhood. But he is once again stopped before he can leave, this time by Jiménez, who comes to him for help winning the heart of none-other than María Marta.

Rogelio and Juan Hermosillo face off in an election to choose El Milagro’s new seminarian. Burgos acts as Juan’s campaign manager, carrying out corrupt actions such as buying votes with tamales. As the neighborhood elects the new seminarian, and amidst the celebrations, Jiménez makes a confession that astonishes everyone.

Rogelio, disillusioned by Jiménez and María Marta’s engagement, flees to a nearby neighborhood, El Desierto, where everything is backward. Rogelio contemplates staying there forever.

Father Camilo receives a letter from the Archdiocese accusing him of harboring a fake seminarian. The priest is forced to enroll Rogelio in the seminary, and Rogelio finally accepts the new challenge. Meanwhile, Jiménez gets wounded in a confrontation with El Jetas.

María Marta prepares for her wedding with Jiménez, who has yet to recover his memory. Rogelio, now convinced that the cop is a better match for María Marta, does all he can to get Jiménez to remember his future wife, but on the big day, everything goes wrong.
