It is 1914, the beginning of The First World War. Louis and Bastien, life-long rivals, get mobilised and take part in the War. One night, while their section was asleep near the front, they got bombarded. In the heath of the chaos, Louis and his companions withdrew, which led to them losing their regiment. After they finally rejoined their troop, they got accused of dissertation.
