In Fort William, midwife Pam is looking after Michelle, who is expecting her fourth baby. Michelle is determined to have a local birth, but Pam knows that the size of the baby may make this impossible.

On the north east coast of Scotland, midwife Sheena is based in the fishing port of Peterhead. She is looking after second time mum Tracey who had a miscarriage six months previously. Naturally concerned about how things will go this time, she wants to give birth in the local midwife unit, with Sheena by her side.

Under Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, sits the Belford Hospital where midwife Gail is hoping local mum Claire will deliver her second baby. That's Claire's hope too because her first child was a mid-cavity forceps delivery and she's worried that she might face another painful birth.

In the shadow of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, the Belford Hospital's midwife-led maternity unit offers mums-to-be the chance of a local birth. Midwife Pam was, amazingly, the first "Belford mum" 20 years ago and now she's working with third time mum Laura, who hopes to have her baby there.
