William’s snoring is keeping Hester up at night, and her days are far from restful after she agrees to take care of a neighbor’s highly strung dog. As William quickly discovers, he has a major role to play in solving both problems.

Hester lobbies the head of the local council about the need for an old people’s home. When a petition in support of the home fails to convince him, Hester resorts to more covert measures to get her point across.

Hester appears on the television program Antiques Roadshow along with a reluctant William and a valuable vase. Though she enjoys the limelight, Hester finds her TV appearance may also have drawn the attention of the criminal world.

William’s business worries are keeping him up at night. For a change of pace, Hester takes him on a short cross-Channel trip. William finds it equally hard to sleep in France, although for entirely different reasons.

Hester’s imagination runs wild when William arrives home from the office reeking of perfume. He offers her a perfectly innocent explanation, but Hester continues to smell a rat.

Hester invites her daughter’s in-laws to dinner while they are visiting from the country. Her offer to have them spend the night turns into an extended stay, and William plots the Fields’s escape.

Always eager to support a good cause, Hester trains for a charity bike ride to Brighton. She approaches the task with her usual can-do attitude. The only thing in doubt is her pedal power.

After returning from their second honeymoon in Naples, Hester notices that William is behaving very secretively. She suspects the worst, but William’s motives are pure.
