Jolly Fellows was the first musical made in the U.S.S.R.-an anarchic, cavorting comedy in the Marx Brothers mode. Lead actress Lyubov Orlova was the preeminent star of Stalin-era musicals-mostly directed by Eisenstein associate Grigori Aleksandrov.
